How to compare investment companies on www.theaic.co.uk
This is the first of a series of articles to help you get the most out of the AIC website – www.theaic.co.uk when you are researching or monitoring investment companies.
The most popular and simplest to use data research tool on our website is compare companies. It allows you to quickly filter the investment company universe by characteristics such as AIC sector and then drill down further into some metrics of the peer group.
This example below is filtered on the Global sector. Columns are sortable, so here we have clicked 5yr to rank the top-performing investment company on a share price total return basis over this period. The other data points visible here include discount, charges, gearing and yield. You can also see these at a sector level in the grey row at the top.
If you wish to analyse a particular investment company in more detail, you can click on the company name on the left. This will take you to a dedicated company profile page. We will focus on this area of the website in more detail next month. You can also use the binoculars icon to add the company to a “Watchlist” – a personalised list of investment companies you may wish to monitor. Configurable views allowing users to choose their own data points, across multiple sectors and including historic data are available via the Advanced Compare button at the top.
You can also access a helpful step-by-step tutorial function, highlighted in yellow on the diagram, which shows you how to use the ‘Compare investment companies’ page in more detail.
