My portfolios
The AIC’s website offers a few different ways to help you select and monitor investment companies in your portfolio.
After extensive feedback from website users, we have introduced a new tool, ‘My portfolios’, that brings together existing features and adds some enhancements to make this job even easier.
Previously, you could set up a ‘watchlist’ to monitor a list of your chosen companies. You could also create a virtual income portfolio within ‘Income Builder’ to see which months you were likely to receive dividends and distribute them throughout the year to meet your specific needs. However, these two features – watchlists and income portfolios – remained separate.
We have now combined both features into ‘My portfolios’.
The ‘My portfolios’ page shows you a complete view of all your portfolios, their market value and number of companies in each. You can easily add, edit and remove companies in this screen by clicking the ‘pencil’ icon.
Our helpful step-by-step tutorial, circled on the first screenshot, walks you through how to use this page in more detail. There are a few more improvements too. The ability to add ‘number of shares’ has been extended to all portfolios. Once you add a number of shares, you’ll see a valuation based on the previous day’s market closing price.
We have also added the ability to add a custom ‘cash holding’ to a portfolio. You could use this to represent cash you hold, or if you wish, any non-investment company holdings you might have. This value will be held constant unless you update it.
The company data screen that watchlist users will be familiar with now has a new and improved look. You can re-order columns and we’ve even given you some extra data points to choose from.
A ‘portfolio analysis’ chart has been added, allowing you to see at a glance the AIC sectors in which your portfolios are invested. A button above the chart allows you to switch to a breakdown of your portfolio by individual investment company.
Stock splits inevitably lead to a change in the number of shares an investor holds. If one of your portfolios includes a company that undergoes a stock split, we’ll alert you and give you the option to manually update the number of shares you hold, or let us do it for you.
We hope these changes make it easier for you to keep track of your real or virtual portfolios on theaic.co.uk. If you have any questions or feedback, we’d love to hear from you – please drop us a line at website@theaic.co.uk.
